my child has an allergy / Health issue
If your child has an allergy or any type of health issue, we are happy to work with you. If he needs to take medicine regularly, please let camp director Scott Dean know at registration. Campers are allowed to administer their own medicine if you trust them to do so. If you would prefer him to do it supervised, Coach Dean will be happy to handle it.
Medical Attention
The camp is fortunate in that one of our coaches is a certified EMT and on campus at all times in the event of injury or sickness. Some of the SMCC athletic teams are also going through workouts during the summer and the camp has access to their athletic trainers and facilities if necessary.
In addition, nearly all of our coaches have to be admitted to their state athletic associations and hold various certifications in CPR, concussions, heat illness, first aid, and defibrillator use. We also have a defined concussion protocol that all coaches are required to follow.
For more serious issues, we use an urgent care five minutes off campus or, if necessary, the emergency room at Southwest Mississippi Medical Center, which is 10 minutes away. We also have a relationship with the local dentist (a former camper!) should the need arise.
